KITT, The Knight Industries Two Thousand, is the fastest, strongest, and safest car in the world. When Michael was hired, Wilton Knight had ordered KITT to be created. It has a mind of its own and it can drive by itself. When he first sat in the car he looked at the dash and said "what's all this? It looks like Darth Vaders bathroom." KITT has been hurt before but always came out stronger. He got severe structural damage from Goliath. He was destroyed twice and someone almost blew him up by shooting a rocket into his exhaust system. Inspite of all this KITT has been built stronger each time and has came out on top.

In the last episode which was a movie called Knight Rider 2000, Michael comes back to the foundation after resigning ten years earlier. When he comes back, he finds that KITT was dismantled. He then integrated KITT into his '57 Chevy. There is also a new car. Its called the Knight Industries Four Thousand (as seen in the background). Originally it also had its own personality. At a certain point in the movie KITT, which was integrated into a '57 chevy was exposed to water and was destroyed. Michael fixed KITT and put KITT's CPU into the new car and took out the new personality.
